Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to have one single coaching session?
Coaching is not designed to be a quick fix. For this reason, it is not ideal to have one single coaching session. However, it is understandable that it is often helpful to try something new to learn if it may be a right fit.  For this reason, if you feel a single session may be what you or the young adult in your life is looking for, please contact Kelli and it will be arranged.  Remember that while a single coaching session may provide an important breakthrough, the programs offered provide lasting change.

My teen has a lot on her plate right now with school, work and college applications.  How much extra work will coaching take?
While your teen will most certainly be learning new concepts, she will not have to read more text or write more papers.  The real work of the coaching program is approaching the work, responsibilities and challenges that she currently has in a different way. The coaching sessions are spread out to give the teen/young adult time to think about the concept and try it out in different areas of their life.

My daughter thinks that if she sees a Coach that means something is wrong with her.  How would you explain to her that that is not the case?
I would start off by telling her that the top performers from professional athletes to business executives all work with coaches. Coaching is not counseling.  Coaching is meant, quite simply, to help people get to where they want to go.  By working with a coach, your daughter will learn new concepts that will most definitely have a positive impact on her life now and in the future.

How it works

Kelli meets with clients on a weekly basis and offer coaching sessions in person, over the phone or via Skype.  A typical session is 55 minutes and ends with a specific, simple, action step to accomplish in the week that follows. Each coaching session is tailored to the specific needs of the client.

Kelli generally works on four areas with clients:

  • Defining goals

  • Formulating a plan that will use the client’s skills

  • Holding the client accountable for progress

  • Providing structure, encouragement and support

When working with clients who are minors, Kelli prefers to have an initial session with the parent or guardian.  This can be with or without client.  This initial session allows her to get a sense of the family dynamics and the presenting issues.  After the initial session Kelli will work alone with the client while including the parent at intervals.  She firmly believes in confidentiality, but also feels that transparency is what best helps teens and families.  Kelli encourages the client to have open communication with their parent whenever possible. After the initial parent session, communication via email is available.

For clients 18 and older parental communication is not required.

Sessions are available in person, via Skype or phone.
